Positional relationship between the mylohyoid raphe and the hyoid bone. (Left: normal type. Right: herniated type) The left and right mylohyoids form an inverted-roof shape with the mylohyoid raphe at its crest. The mylohyoid, which attaches from the mandibular symphysis and the mylohyoid line to the mylohyoid raphe and the hyoid bone, consists of muscle fascicles regularly arrayed to form a sheet, and it divides the sublingual and submandibular spaces from each other.
